The Girl I used to Know
I see the girl I used to know
sit by your window
and stare at the forest
where we shared so many laughs.
As I watch through the window
I remember endless summer days
eating ice cream
and fighting monsters
We used to play superhero
and fight off the foes
in your backyard
jumping up and down
We used to be Powerpuffs
and mermaids captured by
an evil octopus that we
scared with a bath drain.
Now when I see you
you wear makeup
and curl your hair
to look pretty
You had a boyfriend,
a boy I used to know
but he left because
he could not handle it
I try to tell you
that your beautiful
just the way you are
but you don't listen
You think this mask
the mask you wear
will fool others and
make them like you
But I say you don't
you don't have to fool
I'll be your friend but
you seem to want them
You don't seem to want
my friendship I offered
you hang with the baddies
it makes me kinda saddy.
I overheard you say
you didn't want a girl's
friendship anymore.
She was a good girl
I don't want you to end up
in the way thieves do
or spoiled rotten stars
Please turn back
I'll let you be the hero
I'll be the villian
I'll be the sidekick
Just please come back.
I don't want to see you
end up this way
with the bad people
Be the girl I used to know.
